The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), in association with the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), is organising the 17th India International Seafood Show (IISS) at the Chennai Trade Centre. It is one of the largest seafood fairs in the Asia-Africa region. The biennial show offers a common platform for seafood processors, exporters, importers, aquaculture farmers, hatcheries, seed and feed producers to meet under one roof. The show consists of a 100 booth exhibition and technical sessions that offer a glimpse into the latest machinery and equipment. It will also showcase the latest technology available on the kinds of seeds and feed available for the farmers as well as new insights for the processors and value addition for the exporters. The IISS offers opportunity to the participants to exchange ideas and also to explore further possibility of strengthening the trade relationships, MPEDA said. The previous shows had brought importers and exporters together and helped to create new markets for Indian seafood exports.

Urban Aquaponics ConferenceFebruary 24-26 2010
Urban Aquaponics Conference
Brisbane, Australia
This will be mainly related to urban aquaponics development and is organised by the Aquaponics Network Australia (ANA). The venue is the Brisbane Technology Park conference centre, in Eight Mile Plains, south of Brisbane (about 20 km from Brisbane airport). There will be 3 full day components costing AUD200 per day. Some 250 participants are expected.
- Day 1-Aquaponics teaching in high schools. This is to significantly improve the standard of science teaching, plus the number of young people able to know and manage hobby hydroponics at home. This is expected to better equip homes for greenery and low-cost food responses to climate change – in which urban organic agriculture without waste, clean organic matter recycling, water harvesting and recycling, and energy conservation, will be key objectives.
- Day 2-3:
Aquaponics equipment advances suited to Australia and other hot-dry climate countries with temperate, sub-tropical and tropical climates. Integrations of aquaponics systems with green walls, green roofs, solar and other sustainable energy sources, rain-water harvesting, storage and use, recycling of “grey water”, and recycling of clean organic matter for fish feed via vemiculture/insect culture. Advances in “food from the roof” will be strongly featured.
- Aquaponics in LED-lit (Light Emitting Diodes) operations deep inside buildings. The technology operates up to 24 hours a day, uses solar or other sustainable energy, and extends the aquaponics technology to the kind of “protected agriculture” likely to be required if and when climate change weather turns violent.
- Aquaponics research and development by individuals, companies, universities and governments.
